Before you call
It helps to have:
- Your address and city, so the request reaches a contractor who works there
- What you want: a new opening, a bigger opening, a well, a cover, or a full basement bedroom
- Whether the basement walls are poured concrete or concrete block, if you know
- Anything outside that wall: a deck, patio, AC unit, gas meter or sprinkler lines
- Your timeline, such as a closing date or a renter moving in
